Naval Heritage Day
Sunday, 18th July 2010
We will meet at 10.45am in front of Wharf 4 Circular Quay to take the 11am ferry to the Naval Heritage Centre at Garden Island. The cost of the ferry trip is $10.60 return. Entry to the Naval Heritage Centre is $5.00 per person. The main exhibition is entitled "Australia's Navy in Peace and War" and allows visitors to experience what it is to be Navy through sight, sound and touch. See Naval technology and ordnance from cannonballs to missiles, stand on the bridge of a Battle Class destroyer and touch original equipment from 60 years ago, see Sydney Harbour through an operational attack periscope from an Oberon Class submarine and so on. We will take lunch at the Salthorse Café, which provides inexpensive light lunches and beverages to visitors in a unique harbour foreshore location. We return to Circular Quay about 3.30pm.
